76ers vs. Mavericks Who Will Win Get the Latest NBA Odds and Prediction for March 2nd

The Sixers are looking strong and currently positioned to be either the third or fourth seed in the East. With a record of 40-21 and a great win over the Heat last night (119-96), Philadelphia was able to do so even without MVP Candidate Joel Embiid. Tyrese Maxey and James Harden both played brilliantly and the Heat was left almost helpless by their incapability to generate points.

The Mavericks have not been living up to expectations since bringing Kyrie Irving to the team before the trade deadline. After seven outings, the team is (3-4) and on a two-game losing streak. Irving has been a potent scoring option, yet he and Luka Doncic have yet to establish any real ‘chemistry’. Dallas (32-31) has slipped to 7th in the West after being 4th just weeks ago. Despite this, they are only two games behind the Phoenix Suns for the 4-seed and the teams will meet this weekend in an important matchup.

The following are the betting odds for the Philadelphia 76ers and Dallas Mavericks game, courtesy of FanDuel.

The 76ers’ Potential to cover the spread

The 76ers' Potential to cover the spread

It appears that Joel Embiid is likely to play tonight, which is great news for the Sixers. With Embiid and Luka Doncic, two of the NBA’s top scorers, both playing, it promises to be an entertaining match-up. Doncic averages 33.2 points per game, while Embiid is close behind at 33.0 points per game. He hasn’t featured since the 27th when they were narrowly beaten by the Miami Heat 101-99. Embiid has consistently scored 23+ points per game since December 31st when he recorded just 16 points against OKC. The Mavericks boast a strong defense, but it is uncertain how they will fare against the dynamic Embiid.

James Harden is expected to be the key to tonight’s game. Now that he’s accustomed to the Philadelphia environment, his game has improved. He certainly deserved to be an All-Star, but all that is irrelevant if his efforts help the team reach the NBA Finals. Except for one game, his points total has been 20 or more since February 5th. He is also the NBA leader in assists per game with 10.6, so he is likely to do well in his former home state.

The Mavericks’ Ability To Cover The Spread

The Mavericks' Ability To Cover The Spread

The Dallas Mavericks have been struggling lately, having lost five of their last six games, with their only victory being against a lowly San Antonio Spurs side. Tonight, they will be without Davis Bertans, making it more difficult to try and get the win they desperately need against what could be a full-strength Joel Embiid.

On Tuesday night, the Indiana Pacers were triumphant over the Dallas Mavericks, winning 124-122, with Luka Doncic netting 39 points in defeat. Kyrie Irving scored a mere sixteen, which won’t be enough when facing better teams. Irving is sure to recover, but Luka’s performance won’t make a difference unless Kyrie’s output is more consistent. The star guard averages 24.7 points per game, plus 5.1 rebounds and 6.9 assists – they have the prime backcourt in the NBA, and we should soon witness their chemistry in full effect.

If Dallas is to have any chance of overcoming Philadelphia, Kyrie Irving must have an outstanding performance tonight. Without his contribution, it is unlikely the team will be able to match Philadelphia’s scoring average. Fortunately, the Mavericks score approximately the same amount of points per game as the Sixers.

Final Prediction & Pick for 76ers vs. Mavericks

Given that Joel Embiid is set to play, I think the Sixers have a good shot at making up the three-point deficit on the Mavericks’ home court. Philadelphia has an impressive 35-25-1 ATS record, while Dallas is 22-38-3 ATS. My pick is Philadelphia +3 (-114).
