Balmain’s creative director, Olivier Rousteing, took to social media on September 17 to reveal that an armed group had “hijacked” a van transporting the items from Charles de Gaulle Airport to the brand’s Paris headquarters, merely 10 days before their scheduled appearance at the womenswear show.

Expressing his frustration, Rousteing remarked, “This is so disrespectful. I wanted to share this with you as a reminder to never take anything for granted.”

The police source, confirming the arrests, revealed that the group was tracked down in the Paris suburbs, with various Balmain pieces discovered during home searches. Notably, investigators believe that the luxury label was not specifically targeted, as the stolen items would likely have been sold if there were a specific order.

The fashion world was taken aback by the unprecedented incident, prompting the Balmain team to work tirelessly to recreate the outfits in time for the show. Despite the challenges, they successfully curated a vibrant collection featuring bold primary colors, lustrous vinyl-style materials, and intricate flower arrangements.

The recent arrests mark a crucial development in resolving the high-profile Balmain fashion robbery, shedding light on the motives behind the theft and securing justice for the esteemed fashion house.
