Luxury conglomerate LVMH’s fashion division enters a new era as Sidney Toledano steps down after six years as the Chief Executive Officer of LVMH Fashion Group. Taking the helm as the new CEO is Michael Burke.
Michael Burke’s journey with the Arnault Group began with overseeing investments in the United States. Notably, he led the American subsidiary of Dior from 1986 to 1992 and then Louis Vuitton from 1992 to 1997. In 1997, he became the CEO of Dior and, in 2003, the President and CEO of Fendi.
In 2012, Michael Burke assumed the role of CEO of Bulgari and later became the President and CEO of Louis Vuitton. In January 2021, he added the position of non-executive chairman of the board of directors at Tiffany & Co. to his portfolio.
Since February 2023, Burke has served as a counselor to the president and has been a member of the board of directors of The Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode (FHCM) since 2016.
As CEO of LVMH Fashion Group, Burke will oversee iconic brands within the group, including Louis Vuitton, Loewe, Marc Jacobs, Patou, Celine, and Givenchy.
In response to the announcement, Burke expressed his pride and honor, stating, “I am proud and honored to have the trust of Bernard Arnault, who, after more than 40 years by his side, is now offering me an exciting and challenging opportunity as the leader of LVMH Fashion Group, home to so many iconic Maisons.”
Burke emphasizes his commitment to a long-term strategy, craftsmanship, creativity, and excellence. He acknowledges the legacy of Sidney Toledano, his predecessor, with whom he shares a long history of friendship and camaraderie.
Sidney Toledano, having led the Maisons with creativity and unique leadership, will transition to an advisory role to Bernard Arnault, marking the end of his tenure on the group’s executive committee. These changes will take effect from February 1, 2024.
The reshuffling within LVMH Group continues, with Frédéric Arnault appointed to lead the new watches division, LVMH Watches, at the beginning of January. Meanwhile, Antoine Arnault announced his departure as CEO of Berluti, although he remains chairman.
