Artificial Intelligence (AI) can now detect whether the luxury handbag you’ve just purchased is authentic or counterfeit.
Entrupy, a technology service established in 2012, has employed AI to authenticate luxury goods and sneakers in the resale market. Their tool is used by hundreds of vintage dealers and claims an accuracy rate of up to 99.1%, especially for luxury brands like Chanel, Burberry, and Louis Vuitton.
According to Business Insider, although targeted at luxury resellers, this technology aims to build trust with customers, who are increasingly sensitive to counterfeit products. Users will take detailed photos of the product from various angles using Entrupy’s camera and AI will cross-reference these images with the database of authentic inventory.
Entrupy’s business model builds scalable solutions for product verification through artificial intelligence, allowing businesses to ensure inventory safety and supply chain protection.
The company will issue authentication certificates for retailers after verifying the products. Business Insider writes that while this tool is currently limited to prestigious luxury brands, it has garnered attention as TikTok partnered with Entrupy to authenticate designer handbags on the TikTok Shop e-commerce platform. This AI-supported authentication process also faces competition from Meta and Humane.ai.
