Maria Grazia Chiuri, the creative force behind Dior’s womenswear and accessories, is set to be honored with the Neiman Marcus Award for Distinguished Service in the Field of Fashion. This recognition places her in the esteemed company of Christian Dior, who received the accolade in 1947, making Chiuri the first female creative director of House Dior to be bestowed with this honor.
The award highlights Chiuri’s cultural impact over her 25-year career, which includes tenures at Fendi and Valentino before assuming her role at Dior. Her approach at Dior is celebrated for infusing a “modern vision that pays homage to the house’s heritage,” offering an inspiring perspective that resonates with women and invites them to identify with her designs.
The formal acknowledgment of Chiuri’s contributions will take place during an event on March 3 at the Ritz Hotel in Paris, coinciding with Paris Fashion Week. Subsequently, a comprehensive year-long, multi-level programming will unfold as part of Neiman Marcus’ “retail-tainment” strategy.
Expressing her delight at receiving the award, Chiuri emphasized her commitment to respecting Dior’s heritage while infusing her “poetic approach.” She shared, “This award pushes me to keep giving my all, doing the best I can for women, helping them to find the awareness they need to never give up on themselves and to overcome all hurdles.”
The award is dedicated to all the women who have played a significant role in shaping her, and Chiuri specifically mentioned Michela Murgia, an author, activist, friend, and a continual source of inspiration.
