SheaMoisture Unveils Groundbreaking Deodorant Range Catered to Rich Melanin Skin

SheaMoisture, the renowned beauty and personal care brand, has introduced its inaugural deodorant range specifically designed for rich melanin skin and endorsed by Black dermatologists and gynecologists.

This innovative collection comprises antiperspirant underarm and whole-body deodorants meticulously crafted “to address the unique needs of rich melanin skin.” The range aims to deliver superior sweat and odor protection throughout the day, promoting all-over freshness, addressing underarm discoloration, replenishing moisture, and offering soothing and smoothing effects on sensitive skin areas.

Dawn Williams-Thompson, Head of NA Personal Care Design for Retail and Local Brand Development at Unilever (SheaMoisture’s parent company), emphasized the significance of this launch, stating, “SheaMoisture was one of the first brands to introduce innovative products made with culturally authentic natural ingredients for textured hair.”

She continued, “This is the first deodorant range that really works for underarms and your whole body and is designed primarily for rich melanin skin. This reaffirms SheaMoisture’s priority of developing no-compromise beauty products to help her live her healthiest, most beautiful life.”

The collection encompasses eight distinct products, featuring six Black dermatologist-approved stick deodorants tailored for long-lasting antiperspirant underarm protection. These variations include solutions for ‘even tone,’ ‘moisturizing,’ ‘smoothing,’ ‘fresh,’ ‘sensitive,’ and ‘soothing post-shave.’ Each stick offers up to 70 percent moisture replenishment for dry skin with an invisible application.

Additionally, the range includes two options for whole-body protection, approved by Black dermatologists and gynecologists. These formulations are plant-based, free of aluminum, baking soda, or talc, providing all-day, all-over odor control, invisible application, and SheaMoisture’s signature coconut and hibiscus scent.

Dr. Kameelah Phillips, a Black woman gynecologist, emphasized the importance of tailored solutions for rich melanin skin, stating, “Our unique skin requires thoughtful care and deserves deodorant options that provide both effective odor protection and care for our rich melanin skin’s specific needs and sensitivities. The deodorant range for rich melanin skin by SheaMoisture is set to be available from February at major retailers such as Walmart, Target, Walgreens, and CVS in the United States, with each product priced at $9.99.
